Traceability

Cultivar, harvest window, and batch printed on every tin.

Ritual

A small daily practice anyone can begin in sixty seconds.

OKUMI begins with a single word: 奥深い (oku-shii) — "deep." Not the loud kind of deep, but the quiet depth you find when you stop scrolling and give your full attention to one small thing. We built OKUMI for people who want a daily ritual with weight to it, not just another caffeine hit.

The name also points to our leaves. Our flagship tin, FUKAMI, is made from Okumidori — one of Japan's most prized tea cultivars, whose name literally means "deep green." We chose single-cultivar matcha on purpose. Most brands blend leaves to hit a target flavor; we don't. A single cultivar tastes like a place and a season, and it can be traced all the way back to the garden. That traceability is the whole point of the brand.

We are transparent about everything that matters. Every ceremonial tin prints the cultivar, the harvest window, and the batch code right on the front — a small badge of honesty for people who care where their food comes from. Our leaves are sourced from established Uji and Kagoshima growers and stone-milled in Japan, then flushed with nitrogen and sealed in opaque aluminum so the powder you open tastes like the day it was milled. We are a modern house, not a centuries-old heritage company, and we would rather tell you exactly where things come from than dress our story in a past we cannot claim.

Ritual is the second pillar. We don't think matcha has to be precious. You need a bowl, warm (not boiling) water, and a minute of intention. The whisking — the small "W" of the bamboo chasen, the rising foam, the first sip — is the point. It is a pause you can repeat every morning. Our daily and hojicha lines exist so the ritual can follow you into lattes, baking, and busy afternoons without losing its character.

Depth is the result we are after. Matcha carries a gentle, sustained energy from its natural L-theanine, and the act of preparing it asks you to be present for sixty seconds you might otherwise give to a screen. Customers tell us the bowl has become a small boundary between sleep and the day, or between work and the evening. We design everything — the deep-ink packaging, the restraint of our type, the calm of our site — to protect that feeling.

We are still a young brand, and we are building in the open. Our Depth Club subscription rotates a new single cultivar to your door each month, our ritual sets make the practice easy to begin, and our limited KUKAI release celebrates a single garden's best first-flush. As we grow, our promise stays the same: source with depth, describe with honesty, and make a bowl of matcha the most grounded part of your day.

Our transparency promise

OKUMI is a modern matcha house. Our leaves are sourced from established Uji and Kagoshima growers and stone-milled in Japan, then nitrogen-sealed for freshness. We print the cultivar, harvest window, and batch on every tin so you always know exactly what is inside. We are not a Japan-registered heritage company, and we say so plainly.
